Some consider genealogy to be a hobby.  Others see it as a science.  Personally, I think it's more like an incurable disease.  I first caught the bug on a family trip to merry old England, back in 1989.  After a week of touring castles, chasing dragons, and eating bland food, one gets a sense of history and wonders how their ancestors lived and died.

As chance would have it, we sat next to a professional genealogist on the 8-hour flight home.  Dad told her stories he had heard as a boy, and she told us ways we could research them.  Our plane had a short layover in Dallas before continuing on to Cincinnati.  We stayed on the plane as the genealogist left, and who should walk on board but two of my cousins on their way home from a vacation in California.

We all found it quite ironic to meet up like this in Texas, on what was now a dark empty plane heading for home at midnight.  As we flew, so did the time.  We had the run of the plane and swapped stories of our latest escapades.  And to top it off, we got to surprise my aunt, who was waiting at the gate to ride my cousins home.
